Every year, people around the world join the marathon of hope to help cure cancer. All of this started with a man named Terry Fox. For those of you who don't know who Terry Fox is, he was diagnosed with cancer in his right knee on November 12, 1976. He had to have his right leg amputated. When he was in the hospital, he was inspired by an article of an amputee completing the New York Marathon. So, he decided that he was going to run a marathon as well. This is the birth of the Marathon of Hope. Since then, the Terry Fox Foundation has raised over $27 million for cancer research!
